Thanks for asking me about it. That was 40 years ago. What I had was a 1953 Allstate Henry J. I believe the Allstate was made by Sears. When i bought it was modified. Had a straight axle under it and narrowed rear end with a 538 postive. That is what it had when I bought it.All I did was put a Chevy 409 engine with a power glide trans. Had to move it back 15%had to have a special drive shaft made for it. The wiring was fucked up on the whole car. Could never have brake lights and turn signals at the same time. I didn't put any license on it. We ran it in the alleys and streets here in town. It would move out pretty good. Spring time came and I headed for Rockford Dragway. I heated up the tires in bleach. 10 1/2 slicks. Pulled up to the red light to race. I punched gas good when it was yellow. That is when it pucked. I sold it off one part at a time.
Then went out and bought a Chevy SS 396.

well I bet it was fun anyways. I saw one for sale here at a swap meet years ago... it was modded for a chrysler hemi, but had no engine or trans.. it was rough but was a nice complete rolling chassis. someone snapped it up.

Wasn't it Grumpy Jenkins who, after losing to Wally Booth, remarked "What next, am I going to get beaten by a Henry J?"
