Reverse Lockout

Postby claysamx on Wed Dec 12, 2007 5:21 pm

Hi you people I hope everyone is doing well today. I have a job that I want to do later when it gets warmer, because right now it is cold cold in the garage. I don't care how hot the heater gets inside the garage the floor is always ice.

When we rebuilt the engine and put a new clutch in I had them take out the reverse lockout now I have changed my mind. How much trouble is it to put back in? If someone will tell me how to do this step by step maybe I can get it done before next spring.

Sounds like a Vertigate style one.you know the ones you row forwards and backwards instead of an H pattern.

Most likely the reverse lock out for the Ignition switch,,, the 70's at least you had to have the car in reverse for the key cyl. to fully lock.. A safety feature that most removed quickly.

Hey Mike I think you got it. Now just tell me how to put it back on. When I sell my car I want it to be just like it was when I got it.

Hey Clay,, I *Thought* that was what you were refuring to!!
the way it works,, you'll see a nub sticking out of the column on the firewall side of the column... That nub Should have a piece of linkage that runs down to a extra hole (lever) on the reverse shifter tab, on the trans. itself... that one piece of linkage is all that is needed as long as that tab is still on the trans. reverse lever.
I know,,, Clear as mud...
