O.K. so don't get freaky. it's been done. shit I could buy a whimpy 5 lb boost kit if I wanted right now. screw that shit. the motivation for me is this. show up at a real drag event with a car so shitty, even the shitpiles have something to feel good about. then, if thats not enough, actuall go fast with it. ok, so now somebody is thinkin"what the fuck is wrong with SPuD? well, nothing really, I'm just that fucked up a person. I wanna crack the hood and show off a shitpile sicks banger and get all the fakes to come by and laugh at it. So what? maybe I got a sick sense of humor. first off, there is no real set plan. I got a bunch of{to this point} free junk, and maybe can score some more cheap to free crap to glue together. It sounds like fun. if it blows burning guts all over the place i don't care as plenty of vette's fuck up the events anyways. what is it gonna take other than a bunch of work and brains I ain't got? fuck I dunno. but it sounds like fun and should give some pretty good chuckles all around. when am I gonna do it? i have no idea. but since most of the talk around here is sorta the "what if" variety, this should be a hot topic. hel I tried to talk jeepin into pullin this off a while back. maybe I can do it before he gets around to it. maybe not. there's a guy or two on frans forum building real 4oh turblows right now.

I am on board yet again. Actually I just talked myself into getting a part-time job to fund it so I can make it for next race season! :D

Here is my plan after going overboard on the "what-if's" and "could this work" bullshit.

Stock 4.0L (preferably a 96-99)
Untouched stock head
The newer intake manifold (cheap and make a slight bit more power)
258 crank and rods (makes a 4.5L and I already have the parts laying on the garage floor)
Stock 4.0L pistons
Ignition-stock maybe? Not to sure yet.
t3/t4 hybrid turbo is what I am leaning towards right now. (little later down the road)

If I get a motor with a computer and harness, I'll try the stock computer first to see what happens. If it sucks, then I will pick up a Megasquirt and use it. My Dad is an electronics guru, so building it ain't a issue and I would love to learn the system. The only thing I am hung up on is the tranny. The car is setup for a manual and I would really like to run a 4-5 speed. But, I don't want to drop 2k on a TKO or the like. I thought about using a AX-15 5 speed. The seem to hold up to some pretty brutal shit so it should take this project just fine. If 505 performance can slap on a turbo on a stock Wrangler and not have any drivetrain problems, so can I.

BTW: Hey Spud, if you want to run a Megasquirt let me know. I'll get my Dad to build it for you, he loves doing shit like that.

well here's what i plan on planning on subject to change with the weather- a stock 4oh, i don't really care what year, a automatic trans, maybe a 998, maybe a 727, whatever looks good... and I already have a convertor for the 727 so it's more likely. I like the automatic idea cuz I don't wanna be throttling and unthrottling and shifting and burping wastegates and all that. just a hammer down and steer deal yaknow?anyways I gotta free turbo from a 3100 ?? caterpillar truck engine. why? it's free stupid keep up here. I think if i actually get the engine in the car I"ll probably cobble up a blow through carb setup cuz electronics scare me. and I usually shock the piss outa myself when working with it . anyways dump all that crap in this hideous abortion of a 69 javelin and add some pablo picasso paint spooge and phoof it's a runner. bitchin huh? I think I need to screw uh i mean haggle klvn8r outa some doors and stuff to really keep the project moving forward which it hasn't done in a few months. alls I gotta do is come up with some worthless- uh i mean valuable amc crap he's interested in.

Anyone have any input on running a AX-15? What kind of trouble am I looking at in the terms of going from the original clutch linkage to a hydraulic setup?

thats completely Cool!!!

Weve always had turd cars among my friends. The last one was a 35$ running spirit. Sold the 258 for 350$. Bought a running jeep cherokee for 150$ pulled the 360 and th400. Put the 360 in the spirit with homemade motor mounts and homemade jeep headers. Put the th400 in my amx. Then pulled the model 20 and bolted in a free s-10 pickup rearend that already had 4:10's. Put in a free mini spool. Used the 6-banger tranny and converter. We raced it for 5-6 years and won alot of races. It ran 13:90's to 14:teens at 100mph.

I especially like the fact it was faster than a lot of stock big block cars and it was baby shit yellow. Keeping in mind our 360 had over 250,000 miles. We did put on a r4b intake/edelbrock carb and picked a couple. Then we spun a rod and it started knocking pretty hard. So we parked it and bought the '64 rambler and starting tubbing it...then I moved and lost a place to work on it.

building a sleeper beater is totally cool. Its usually a moral dilema for other people to understand.....

That's hard to pass up even though Wayne Calvert is a 20 minute drive from my house. 8)

Well, I just found a part that might just change my direction on the 4oh.

http://www.cliffordperformance.net/Merc ... _Code=J258

If I decide to run this manifold I wouldn't have to deal with the cost and time to get a computer to work. Plus, instead of spending the time and money on a turbo and making my own brackets and what not I could just slap on a N20 kit. Stock 4oh, edelbrock 500 or 600, 100 shot of N20. That is more likely to get me to the first race of the season! Blow it up? Fuck it! I'll just get another!

Oh ya, I figured out the name to put on the car. "Nukin Futs" :D

Alright Spud and all other local's.. keep your eye out for a 4.0L for me. I am going to the junkyard on Saturday to try and see what is out there and how much they are going for.

I just found a guy that may sell me a 4 counter weight 258 crank. It weighs 20 pounds less than the other's which should help rev faster.

I was gonna ask you to pick one up for me. now we're both screwed. i think I'll name my car "blow me" there's a boneyard not to far from me that has had a few of those{ in various states of violation} every time I go there. you gotta get to em before hoolio starts whackin on em with a mexican sledghammer.

hey I traded some front drum brake hubs for a pair of k/h discs for the 4-oh special. seemed like a good deal i dunno. somebody swapped a v-8 crossmember into this six banger car. now I need a six banger crossmember. groan. I might be working too hard here. I might should just use my running six banger car than make a car outa this other pile of shit. I'd hafta strip it though. now I know klvn8r has a six banger x-member, it's in jeepin's old 71 javelin.....ugghhh more work. maybe another free trade? that takes the sting out of it some..

So the junkyard trip churned up nada. But, it seems that everyone wants about $175-$200 for just the motor. So, I got to thinking. What if I just went and bought something similar to this....

http://dallas.craigslist.org/car/479600721.html

Then I could have a running motor, transmission I could maybe use (rather run a 5 speed) computer and wiring, and also a driveshaft I could have cut down (maybe). If I could score a Cherokee with a 4oh and 5 speed, I sure would be tempted. Take anything valuable off and sell on eBay and take the rest to the boneyard. Whatcha think?
